Who Are We?
Lazy Susan's is owned and operated by the mother-daughter team of Nicole Proom and Susan Doyle.Initially we opened in 2001,as a single store in the trendy Main Street area of Vancouver, Canada. A second store, in Victoria opened in 2007. The focus at Lazy Susan's is to combine a love of nostalgia and vintage with a commitment to new and fabulous products for the modern urban market.
We discovered that it was very difficult to source affordable products to meet our customers' needs, particularly products which are both made in North America and are good to our planet. Therefore, in the last two years we have focused our efforts on making products ourselves. When we can not purchase locally (such as oilcloth fabric) we try to purchase within North America. Unless noted otherwise, the items you see in this site are all made in North America, most in British Columbia. This helps us to create employment in our own community and to reduce our carbon footprint.
Our Approach
Our products reflect our approach to retailing. They are ecofriendly, high quality, made as close to home as possible, fun, and affordable. Specifically:
- We design most of the products ourselves
- We have personally visited where they are made to satisfy ourselves that they are produced responsibly. Consequently,with a very few exceptions, we do not purchase products made outside of North America.
- We stand behind the quality of the products we sell. Since many of the products are hand-made, they reflect the unique variations that you do not find in factory-produced items. This is both their charm and their intrinsic value.
- Our pricing allows us a modest return for the time and energy put into producing the product. We try to price everything to reflect affordability.
- We love things that are colourful, joyful, and whimsical and this is reflected in what we make and carry.
